A Chinese Export silver tea kettle.
The shaped body is hand engraved with different flower motifs with birds and butterflies. Chrysanthemums bloom through the frost, plum blossom for new beginnings, butterflies for nuptial bliss – all tied together with the bamboo motif for resilience which has been used for the handle , finial and stand of the kettle.
The form of the kettle shows the influence of the Western Art Nouveau movement of the early 1900’s.
