A Chinese Export silver tazza. The base and stem is in the form of bamboo. The bamboo stems rise from roots that form the base and support a large mother of pearl dish which is secured with pins in the form of swallows. Bamboo symbolises resilience and swallows come in the Spring and so symbolise new beginnings. Swallows also symbolise homecoming for sailors who see them as they near land
A wonderful centrepiece, this is an early example of the craftsmanship of Wang Hing – note the signature is stamped in full – only on early pieces crafted by the master himself.
