Exceptionally heavy Indian colonial tankard made by the British East India Company nominated manufacturer , Hamilton & Co of Calcutta – still working today and considered one of the top Indian silver makers.
The shaped tankard is in the style popular in mid 19th century Britain. The body is chased with foliage and flowers and there is a reserve for engraving. Charles Whistler was the lucky recipient .
The dating 1850-1860 is estimated given the style of the Hamilton & Co mark on the base.
