VICTORIAN ENGLISH SILVER KETTLE

Share

Description

An excellent example of Victorian English silver.

This large kettle is in the shaped can style so popular in the 1870’s.

The silver kettle has the original stand complete with the original keys to lock it in place – all hallmarked

Even the burner is hallmarked

The finial is in the form of a carved pineapple standing on leaves.

The use of pineapples as finials on Victorian silver was a symbol of wealth, hospitality, and the exotic nature of the fruit itself. Pineapples were rare and expensive in Europe during the 18th and 19th centuries, making them a symbol of luxury and status. They were so valuable that they were sometimes rented out as table centerpieces, rather than being eaten

The kettle has two sets of engraved coasts of arms – maybe a wedding gift – the joining of two illustrious families

This English silver kettle can still be used but would also make a very fine display item
