VICTORIAN SILVER DISHES

Two Victorian sterling silver covered dishes by the silversmith Henry Wilkinson hallmarked just two years apart.

Almost certainly meant to be used for butter – which would have been home made and not in nice rectangular portions

Why the goat finial?  Unusual because we usually see the traditional cow finial.

Maybe someone with dairy allergies?

This would appear to be a his and hers version with the dish with the flower finial for the lady of the house.

These dishes are great complements for a dinner or tea table.  The dishes could be used for caviar or olives or cream  and the plates are ideal wine coasters.

Multiple uses with style!
