A Burmese silver bowl with pierced and deeply repousse worked decoration of scenes from the tales of the Jataka.

This presentation bowl follows the shape of the traditional Burmese begging bowl (thabeik)

The bowl’s decoration is in the classic style with a polished rim below which there is scrolling detail.

The central panel shows the Jataka,  The base is chased with  lotus leaves.

What is special about this Burmese bowl is the addition of the  piercing which is augmented by the fine rope detail around the borders

The engraving of the monkey god on the base limits the age to late 19th century
