This large Burmese presentation bowl is worked with ten different panels each with different gods or Apsaras (Celestial Dancers)
The repousse worked panels show individual dancers – some with animal heads depicted in fluid dynamic poses wearing exquisite ornaments and costumes .
Their dances symbolise divine beauty , joy and the spiritual connection between heaven and earth
There is an added bonus of the finely worked borders – the top with flowers and foliage and the base that has elephants, fish, flowers, snakes ( very topical this year!) scattered along the lines.
The base has the maker’s motif ( crossed leaves) engraved on the base which dates it to the very last years of the 19th century until 1905
This heavy Burmese silver bowl (it weighs 780 grams) still retains the fine detail as if it was made yesterday
