Description

A Chinese Export silver powder box – the  interior of powder boxes were gilded so that the loose powder could remain pure

The sides and lid are repousse worked with birds amongst plum blossom branches against a polished background

Magpies together  with the plum blossom represents renewal and heralds spring

There is a round reserve in the centre of the lid of the box engraved with the intials of the original owner
