CHINESE EXPORT SILVER TEA CADDY

Share

Description

A Chinese Export silver tea caddy dating from the last years of the 19th century

The caddy is unusual because of the shape – square – and shows the influence of the western Art Nouveau movement on Chinese Export silver craftsmen

The four sides have different flowers some with birds

Chrysanthemums bloom through the frost, plum blossom for new beginnings , peonies for prosperity, good luck, love and honour.

Maybe this tea caddy was specially commissioned for a wedding or anniversary present?

Fine condition
